Jefferson City Information Jefferson City is the capital of Missouri, with a technologically competent labor force. This, combined with the cooperation among city, state, and county governmental offices, and many local industries makes this small metropolitan area the fastest growing in the state. The largest employers in addition to the government are Scholastic, Inc., Capital Region Medical Center, St. Mary's Health Center, Jefferson City Public Schools, ABB Power, T&C Company, Von Hoffman Press, Unilever Home & Personal Care, USA, and Wal-Mart Super Center. Per capita personal income increased by over fifty percent in the last decade, and the city has one of the lowest costs of living in the state. These factors, plus an increase in visitors to Jefferson City, have boosted local retail in recent years.
